Garrido is 79 and serves as a special assistant to the athletic director at Texas. He won two championships at Texas and three more over two stints at Cal State Fullerton. His teams reached a total of 15 College World Series.
On Feb. 23, Garrido had thrown out the ceremonial first pitch before a Texas-LSU game.
