The Texas A&M Aggies have their top — and reportedly only — candidate to become the new head basketball coach at the school.
According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, Texas A&M is prepared to offer Virginia Tech coach Buzz Williams at least $3.5 million a year to take over at the school. In fact, the Aggies are so focused on Williams that they reportedly do not even have a backup candidate.

Williams has been a big success at Marquette, where he reached the Elite Eight, and at Virginia Tech, where he has made three straight NCAA Tournament appearances and came this close to taking top-seeded Duke to overtime on Friday. The expectation has already been that Williams is on his way to College Station, and the fact that he’s regarded as A&M’s only candidates would indicate that the school believes it, too.
