Geno Auriemma rips his players for ‘disgraceful’ effort after win
Think Geno Auriemma holds his players to high standards? I’d say so.
Even though his UConn Huskies beat Tulsa 78-60 on Thursday night to remain unbeaten on the season, Auriemma was upset with his players’ efforts. He said his players had the “most disgraceful effort” since he’s been at UConn.

Then in his postgame interview with SNY’s Justine Ward, Auriemma said he wanted to take his players’ jerseys away.

Perhaps Auriemma was upset that a team that’s below .500 on the season was within 10 points of his Huskies with under five minutes to play. He also gave a bunch of his bench players a chance to play and earn minutes, so it’s possible he was dissatisfied with what they or the starters were not doing.
With these levels of standards, it’s easy to see why Auriemma has built the most successful program in women’s college basketball history. His prickliness is also nothing new.
