Iowa threw its game away against Penn State on Saturday with a terrible play at the goal line in the final few minutes.
Iowa had a 1st-and-goal from the Penn State 3 with 3:25 remaining, trailing 30-24 in the game. Quarterback Nate Stanley looked like he tried to change the play at the line of scrimmage and communicated that change to his teammates. Tight end Noah Fant seemed to be trying to tell one of his teammates that the original play was off. While he was communicating to a teammate, Stanley called for the snap and received it, then threw it to Fant, who got a delayed start on the play.
Fant didn’t even realize that Stanley had thrown the ball towards him, leading to an interception:

Though Iowa’s defense was able to force a punt and get the ball back, the Hawkeyes could only reach the Penn State 44 on their final possession and lost 30-24.
They’re going to be kicking themselves over the way things fell apart, especially after they started off up 12-0.
