Mike Gundy made some harsh comments this week about Oklahoma State fans who are unhappy with the state of the program, and the longtime coach has since apologized.

After entering the season as a top-25 team, Oklahoma State is 3-6 and has been one of the biggest disappointments in the country. Gundy was asked at his press conference on Monday about fans who are frustrated that the Cowboys are 0-6 in conference play after many predicted they would win the Big 12. The 57-year-old spoke about the success he has had at Oklahoma State and said “most people are weak” and want to point the finger when things aren’t going well.

“[I]n most cases, the people that are negative and voicing their opinion are the same ones that can’t pay their own bills,” Gundy said, via ESPN’s Max Olson. “They’re not taking care of themselves. They’re not taking care of their own family. They’re not taking care of their own job. But they have an obligation to speak out and complain about others because it makes them feel better.

“But then, in the end, when they go to bed at night, they’re the same failure that they were before they said anything negative about anybody else.”

Gundy eventually realized that the remarks came off a bit harsh. He took to social media on Tuesday to issue an apology.

“I apologize to those who my comments during Monday’s media call offended. My intent was not to offend any of our fans who have supported us and this program through the years,” Gundy wrote on X.

Gundy, who is the winningest football coach in Oklahoma State history, is known for wearing his emotions on his sleeve. This is certainly not the first time he has been criticized for speaking his mind.

Oklahoma State has lost six straight games. They will try to snap the losing streak against TCU on Saturday night.
