Ex-Texas LB Emmanuel Acho responds after called out for Longhorns criticism
Former Texas linebacker Emmanuel Acho was highly critical of his alma mater during their loss to Oklahoma State on Saturday, and he felt the need to address the situation the following day after being ripped by fans and a Longhorns player.
Acho, who spent three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and is now an analyst with ESPN, took to Twitter during Saturday’s game to air some of his frustrations with Texas. He first criticized head coach Tom Herman for benching starting defensive backs Kris Boyd and Davante Davis in the first quarter for disciplinary reasons.
So #Texas benches their 2 starting CB’s for the 1st Q. & allows 260 yds in that quarter to #OkState. 2nd most in last 15 years. Texas MUST to find another way to discipline in the future.

There’s a reason Baker mayfield gets suspended for 2 plays against WVU last year. Or Saban doesn’t suspend Da’shawn hand for a DUI last year before FL State. A freaking DUI!!
Suspend ur veteran players if you want to, just know, it might cost u.— Emmanuel Acho (@thEMANacho) October 28, 2018
The two players were late to a team meeting, and Acho said that can’t happen but that Herman needs to find a way to discipline players without costing the team wins. When Boyd did finally get onto the field, Acho took aim at him over his poor play, though he didn’t mention him by name.
Bruh, you can’t be late to meetings THEN come out here and get mossed. Your team needs you. #Texas #OkState

I can’t watch this dude play defense anymore. It’s actually trash.

Acho faced a lot of backlash for his remarks, but no one was more furious than Boyd. Boyd lashed out at Acho in his Instagram story on Sunday, telling him to not show his face around the Longhorns’ facility.
“Keep running your f—ing mouth,” Boyd wrote. Don’t show up around this facility. You was warned at practice … Running your mouth further than your football career took you.”
Understanding that his tweets and commentary created a lot of controversy, Acho took to Twitter again on Sunday to explain to Texas fans that he is simply trying to do his job and look at the program objectively.

Acho is obviously more than just an unbiased analyst, and he was one of many people who went nuts earlier this season when Texas had a bad game against Maryland. Anytime a player from a high-profile program calls out his alma mater, it typically doesn’t end well.
