Miami linebacker Adarius Hayes was injured in a car accident over the weekend that left three other people dead, and some troubling new details have surfaced in the wake of the crash.

Police in Largo, Fla., have confirmed that Hayes was the driver of a Dodge SUV that crashed into a Kia SUV on Saturday afternoon. The driver of the Kia, 78-year-old Gail Price, and two children, 10-year-old Jabari Elijah Solomon and 4-year-old Charlie Herbert Solomon Riveria, were all killed. A fourth passenger in the Kia was hospitalized with serious injuries, according to the Miami Herald.

Hayes was also taken to the hospital with what officials described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said on Sunday that alcohol was not believed to have been a factor in the crash. There were no pending criminal charges related to the accident, though detectives were still working to learn more about the cause.

Hayes was reportedly driving near the intersection of Orangeview Drive and Ridge Road in Largo when Price made a left turn in the Kia and Hayes hit her.

Court records in Pinellas Miami-Dade and Broward counties show that Hayes has a lengthy history of traffic violations. The most recent occurred in March 2025, when he received a ticket for driving 84 mph in a 55-mph zone in Clearwater, Fla.

Hayes was also fined on two separate occasions in November 2023 and November 2024 for lane-change violations. In February 2023, he received a ticket for failure to use care after police say he “operated the vehicle inattentively and unaware of surroundings, collided into (a) vehicle.”

Hayes was supposed to complete a driving course following the February 2023 incident but failed to do so, which resulted in his license being suspended for a brief period in May 2023.

A former 4-star recruit who was one of the top linebackers in the country coming out of high school, Hayes is entering his sophomore season at Miami. He played in 11 games last season, mostly on special teams. Hayes had 4 tackles and an interception in the Hurricanes’ 56-9 victory over Florida A&M last September.
