Vernon Adams missed a couple of key passes at the end of Oregon’s loss to Michigan State on Saturday, and there is very little doubt that his broken finger was a big reason for the inaccuracy.
ABC’s announcers mentioned during the game that Adams had a problem with his right index finger and talked about how he was playing without really being able to use it. Reports said on Tuesday that the finger is broken.
“We don’t talk about injuries around here but he wasn’t at his best in that game,” Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost said Monday via CSN Northwest.
Adams was 22-of-39 passes for 309 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions. It was obvious that the broken finger caused him to miss throws he ordinarily would complete.
In the video above, he missed a sure touchdown pass down the sidelines. Then on the next play, he shorthopped his receiver on fourth down. He simply would not miss those throws with a full hand.
Keep in mind two things: Adams typically is much more accurate, and Oregon might not be as good as expected because of this.
