To the chagrin of many, Donald Trump is among the Republican presidential candidates for 2016. However, comments he made on Saturday may negatively impact his support.
Speaking at a Family Leadership Summit in Iowa Saturday morning, Trump had some particularly harsh remarks about Arizona senator John McCain and his status as a war hero.
“He is a war hero because he was captured,” Trump said, according to CNN. “I like people that weren’t captured, OK? I hate to tell you. He is a war hero because he was captured. OK, you can have — I believe perhaps he is a war hero.”

As expected, the backlash directed at Trump came in quick succession and, perhaps, led to Trump this tweet by Trump later in the afternoon.
Captured or not, all our soldiers are heroes!

Damage control or not, it was too little too late as far as Curt Schilling was concerned. The ESPN analyst indicated any chance of Trump having his support are now gone.
I assumed it would take longer than this, but I'm out on @realDonaldTrump . You don't ever mock the people that serve, ever.

Schilling, who is certainly no stranger to letting us know what he thinks via Twitter, is not alone in his feelings about what Trump had to say. Veterans are held in extremely high regard, almost universally. Making disparaging remarks about the brave men and women who have served our country isn’t the best way strengthen your push towards presidency.
