Were 49ers offered 2nd-round draft pick for Jimmy Garoppolo?

What kind of trade market will there be for Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason? And what will he eventually fetch in a deal when the 49ers decide to trade him? That’s what many are wondering.

After Khalil Mack was traded for a 2nd and 6th-round pick, and Amari Cooper basically was dealt for a 5th, many are wondering what Garoppolo is worth.

On the March 11 episode of his “The Haberman and Middlekauff Podcast,” (59 minutes in) John Middlekauff said he heard the 49ers received an offer for Jimmy G that included a second-round pick.

“I would say if they got a three and a two, how is that humanly possible?” Middlekauff said on the podcast. “Listen, I got a text yesterday that someone told them—and they’re like, ‘I even think it’s crazy’—that there’s a two on the table.

“Khalil Mack just got traded for a two. And I get that quarterbacks are much more important than pass rushers, and there’s a supply-and-demand issue. There’s also a draft issue. … Props to the Niners if they’re able to pull that s–t off.”

The 49ers have made it pretty clear that they are planning to trade Garoppolo and move forward with Trey Lance at quarterback. The team’s supposed asking price for Garoppolo was revealed last month.

A second-round pick for him seems pretty reasonable, especially considering he will be recovering from shoulder surgery. It’s also reasonable since Carson Wentz was traded for a swap of second-round picks, as well as a third-round pick that will likely become a second.

Garoppolo is set to make around $25 million this season, which is his last year under contract. One team reportedly has emerged as a suitor for the 30-year-old.
