A.J. Green and his wife Miranda are expecting their first child next month. And if the little guy decides to show up on a day in which the Cincinnati Bengals have a game, Andy Dalton will have to get by without his favorite target.
Green was excused from practice on Thursday so he could attend a doctor’s appointment in advance of the Sept. 30 due date. The Bengals will be hosting the Miami Dolphins Sept. 29 on Thursday Night Football, and Green says he won’t have a difficult decision to make if his son arrives that day.
“I can’t play,” he told reporters, via the Cincinnati Enquirer. “First one, definitely. I want to be there.”
Of course, Green would like it if the rugrat cooperates.
“Just not a game day,” he said. “Anything before a game day would be ideal.”
If you remember, an NFL player who played in the Super Bowl last year had a similar dilemma. His child was not born on Super Bowl Sunday, so everything worked out. Even if Green isn’t as lucky from a scheduling standpoint, having a baby is infinitely more important than a football game.
