Bill Belichick cracks funny joke about Hall of Fame Game

The NFL’s annual Hall of Fame Game signals the unofficial return of football season, and some people find that exciting enough in itself. But the actual game typically leaves a lot to be desired, and that was certainly the case on Thursday night.

The Baltimore Ravens and Chicago Bears combined for six turnovers, with two of them coming on the first two drives of the game. Unfortunately, New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick was unable to catch any of it. He seemed really bummed out when speaking with the media on Friday.

Belichick didn’t watch the HOF game. “17-16. Must have been pretty exciting.”

We know Belichick well enough to know that he was well aware of the game, and he had to have known something about it. Most of the two teams’ regular starters didn’t play. There’s also still a month to go until the regular season, so to say players are rusty would be an understatement. There was nothing “exciting” about the game, and Bill knows that.

Belichick may seem like a serious guy, but most players who have played for him say he has an underrated sense of humor. We’ve seen some flashes of that in the past, and his assessment of the Hall of Fame Game was another reminder of it.
