Report: Carson Wentz expected to be fully cleared for offseason workouts

Carson Wentz

Carson Wentz is once again entering an uncertain offseason in which he is recovering from a significant injury, but it does not sound like the quarterback will be limited much by the latest.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Wentz is expected to be cleared medically before the Philadelphia Eagles begin their offseason program in April. However, the team could still choose to play it safe with Wentz recovering from a stress fracture in his back. Like they did with Wentz’s ACL recovery, it would not be a surprise if the Eagles chose to take things slow again.

Nick Foles once again led the Eagles on a late season run while filling in for Wentz, though this time it did not end with a Super Bowl victory. Despite the injury concerns surrounding Wentz, Eagles coach Doug Pederson and executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman confirmed this week that the franchise remains committed to the former No. 2 overall pick as its starter going forward.

Foles has a somewhat complicated contract situation heading into this offseason, but the Eagles are reportedly looking at a solution that could work out for both sides. In all likelihood, Wentz will have a new backup quarterback when the 2019 season begins.
