CJ Stroud dealing with injury at OTAs

Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud has been taking part in voluntary workouts with the team, but he has not been seen throwing the ball. That was the case once again on Tuesday, which has led to some concern about the former Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Reporters who were present at Texans practice on Tuesday noticed that Stroud took part in drills but only handed the ball off. Head coach DeMeco Ryans addressed the situation at the start of his media availability afterward.

Ryans said Stroud has “general soreness” and that the Texans are not concerned.

“There’s no concerns with CJ. It’s just general soreness,” Ryans told reporters. We’re taking extra precaution with him, but he’ll be good to go. No concerns on my end there.”

Ryans was then asked if Stroud will be able to throw by mandatory minicamp, which begins on June 10. The coach would not commit to a timeline.

If Stroud were dealing with some sort of significant injury, he probably would not be on the practice field in general. The fact that he is even present and taking part in OTAs suggests the issue is not serious, as Ryan said.

The situation will still be worth monitoring ahead of minicamp.

Stroud and Houston’s offense took a step back last season after the former Ohio State star’s shockingly good rookie year. Stroud finished with 3,727 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The Texans beat the Los Angeles Chargers in the first round of the playoffs and then lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round.
