Report: Drew Lock could start Broncos’ final two games

Drew Lock

The Denver Broncos could still see Drew Lock at quarterback this season, if only briefly.

According to Mike Klis of 9News, Lock is expected to start practicing next week after healing his thumb injury. The team hopes he will be able to serve as Brandon Allen’s backup in either Week 12 or 13, and then start the team’s final two home games against Detroit and Oakland in Week 16 or 17.

While the Broncos would have liked to start Lock earlier, his thumb injury has caused him to miss too much time for him to be thrown into the fray any sooner.

Back in preseason, the Broncos made it quite clear that they did not think Lock was ready to start. We’ll see if that has changed, but the Broncos’ goals have — they’re no longer competitive and they know it. At some point, they have to see what their rookie quarterback has to offer ahead of the 2020 season.
