Jeff Fisher reportedly determined to be head coach in NFL in 2018

Jeff Fisher Rams

The last time Jeff Fisher coached in an NFL game, he tied the record for the most losses of any head coach in league history. It should go without saying that he does not want his coaching career to end on that note.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Fisher has been contacting potential assistant coaches that would join his staff in advance of teams getting ready to interview coaching candidates next month. Those reported phone calls include some to his former staff members with the Los Angeles Rams.

La Canfora was told that Fisher is “intent” on getting one more shot in the NFL, but there are expected to be a number of good coaching candidates available this winter. However, a team like the Cleveland Browns could have trouble attracting big names, and owner Jimmy Haslam is expected to seek a coach with previous NFL head coaching experience.

Fisher, 59, did not make a playoff appearance in his last seven seasons as an NFL coach, and he has not led a team to a playoff win since 2003. He was fired by the Rams last year after a 4-9 start.
