Jeff Sperbeck, the longtime agent of Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, died on Wednesday at the age of 62 due to injuries he sustained during a golf cart accident.
According to TMZ Sports, Sperbeck was riding on the back of a golf cart being driven by Elway at The Madison Club in La Quinta, Calif., on Saturday. Sperbeck fell off the cart and hit his head, suffering traumatic injuries. He was taken to a medical facility afterwards and ended up on life support. Officials said he died on Wednesday.
The Sperbecks and Elways were at the Stagecoach music festival in Indio, Calif., earlier in the day and were leaving a party when the accident happened.
Sperbeck represented Elway during his football career and had over 100 clients as an agent. He and Elway were close and even partnered on a winery in 2013 called 7Cellars.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into the incident.
