Rams standout considering training camp hold-in

The Los Angeles Rams could be facing a problem with one of their key players.

Rams running back Kyren Williams reported to training camp on time Tuesday as his representatives remain in contract talks with the team. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport suggested that Williams could still stage a “hold-in” by reporting to camp but refusing to take part in practices and workouts until a new deal gets done.

Williams made clear he had no plans to actually hold out, citing his teammates as a reason for that decision.

Regarding reporting to training camp in the midst of contract discussions, Kyren Williams indicated there was no desire to hold out.

“For me, there was no decision.”

Williams is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and is already getting a raise with a salary north of $5 million for 2025. That is still a paltry sum for a running back who has racked up a combined 2,443 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns over the last two seasons.

As good as Williams’ numbers have been, he is not perceived as a huge big play threat and still makes some high-profile mistakes. There is also plenty of competition at the running back position for the Rams, so it might not necessarily make sense for Williams to miss any practices.

Williams was a steal in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft and was even selected to the Pro Bowl in 2023. The Rams have a pretty complex decision to make on his future.
