Former NFL quarterback and current FOX Sports analyst Mark Sanchez has been arrested for his role in an incident that left him hospitalized with stab wounds.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department issued a statement Saturday afternoon announcing that Sanchez has been arrested for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. All of those charges are misdemeanors.

Sanchez has not yet been formally charged, and remains hospitalized as of late Saturday.

Sanchez was reported to be in stable condition after the incident, which took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Additional reporting indicated that Sanchez was not viewed as the victim in the case, and that the other individual involved claimed to have stabbed the former quarterback in self-defense.

Indianapolis police added that the investigation was limited to Sanchez and the other individual, and no one else is being sought in connection with the case.

Sanchez, 38, was a standout quarterback for USC before being drafted No. 5 overall by the New York Jets in 2009. Though he quarterbacked the Jets to the AFC Championship in each of his first two NFL seasons, he was ultimately unsuccessful with the organization, and was out of the NFL after the 2018 season.

Since retiring from the NFL, Sanchez has worked as a broadcaster, first for ESPN and later for FOX. He was in Indianapolis to call Sunday’s game between the Colts and Las Vegas Raiders.
