Ray Rice files grievance against Ravens over release
Ray Rice has filed a grievance against the Baltimore Ravens, according to reports.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio first reported news of the grievance and says Rice is contesting the team’s release of him in September.
Rice was suspended two games by the NFL in July for knocking out his wife in an elevator. The league then suspended him indefinitely and the Ravens released him after TMZ released video of the knockout punch on Sept. 8. Rice’s argument is that he was punished twice for the same crime.
Rice has already filed a grievance against the league over the double-punishment which will be heard Nov. 5 and 6. If successful with both grievances, Rice will receive $3.52 million based on the earnings he should have received had he been activated in Week 3 as originally designated.
Though Rice is intensely disliked because of what he was caught doing on camera, the fact remains that the CBA says there is only one punishment per infraction. Rice has a legitimate case if only because the NFL completely botched his original punishment.
