The Seattle Seahawks are hoping Rashaad Penny can help spark a running game that has been stagnant since Marshawn Lynch left, so news of the rookie’s finger injury this week was not well received. Fortunately, it does not sound like Penny is in danger of missing regular season time.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Penny underwent “minor surgery” on Wednesday to repair a broken finger. A source told Schefter that Penny should be ready for Week 1 and would have been able to play through the injury if necessary.
Seahawks’ RB Rashaad Penny is undergoing hand surgery this morning, as @bcondotta said. It is the same surgery baseball standout Robinson Cano once had and he was full go within three weeks. Similarly, Penny “should be ready by Week 1,” source texted this am.

It’s being called “minor surgery on his pointer finger,” which was fractured and will need a screw – hence the quick recovery. One source said that Penny “would have played with it if this were late season/playoffs.” https://t.co/aPIBtYFKDb

The Seahawks drafted Penny in the first round, so they obviously expect big things from the former San Diego State star. They still have former seventh-round pick Chris Carson listed as their starter, but Penny is expected to play a significant role.
