Reuben Foster is suspended for the first two games of the upcoming NFL season as a disciplinary measure by the league, and that’s just the start of the off-field issues he faced during the offseason.
Foster’s two-game suspension was for misdemeanor drugs offense and a misdemeanor weapons charge. He also faced allegations of domestic violence from his ex-girlfriend. The charges were dropped when the woman admitted to lying because Foster was breaking up with her.
After an offseason that was so dramatic, Foster acknowledged on Saturday how lucky he is to have his football career.
“It made me appreciate football a lot better. It was crazy, knowing that football can be gone. Being back on this field with my brothers and these coaches, man, is a blessing,” Foster said from San Francisco 49ers camp on Saturday, via NBC Sports’ Matt Maiocco.
All these issues are contributing factors in Foster dropping in the draft before San Francisco selected him with the No. 31 pick in 2017. He had injury issues and there were character concerns, the latter of which have been proven to be valid.
Maybe having his career flash before his eyes has led Foster to appreciate playing much more.
