Video: Dalvin Cook’s knee down helps Vikings avoid fumble return for touchdown
The New Orleans Saints lost out on what would have been a huge play in their NFC Wild Card Game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday after a review showed Dalvin Cook’s knee was down prior to a fumble.
The Vikings had a first-and-10 at their 47 leading 20-17 with under four minutes to go. They pitched it to Cook to the left and he was met immediately by AJ Klein, who brought down the running back. Just as Cook hit the ground, Klein forced the ball out and it was recovered by the Saints’ Von Bell and returned for a touchdown.

The turnover and touchdown would have given the Saints a 23-20 lead. Instead, the referees reviewed the play and correctly ruled that Cook’s knee was down before he lost the ball.

Even though the touchdown didn’t count, the Vikings still lost eight yards on the play. Kirk Cousins was also sacked on the possession to lose four more yards. Minnesota ended up punting to New Orleans, giving the ball back to the Saints with under two minutes left.
