Abby Wambach married girlfriend Sarah Huffman in Hawaii
When Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux were burning up social media over the past week sharing photos from their time in Hawaii, they weren’t just on vacation. They were actually in the land of paradise for a wedding of one of their national team teammates.
According to TMZ, USWNT star player Abby Wambach got married to longtime girlfriend Sarah Huffman on Saturday at the Villas at Poipu Kai in Kauai. The couple’s closest friends and family were there for the ceremony.
Wambach later confirmed the marriage with a tweet sent on Wednesday:
Sarah and I wanted to thank everyone for all the love and support. We couldn't be happier. What an amazing week it's been. #honeymoon

Huffman is also a soccer player who has played for the women’s national team at several different age levels. Huffman currently plays professionally for the Western New York Flash of the Women’s Pro Soccer league, which is also Wambach’s team.
We suspected someone was getting married when Morgan sent this tweet on Saturday night:

Huffman publicly revealed her sexuality in July when she and 17 other Women’s Pro Soccer players joined Athlete Ally.
“I am proud to be an athlete ally because I dream of a world full of equal opportunities and treatment,” Huffman said in a statement. “I believe that sports are a place where everybody belongs. Discrimination based upon sexual orientation, race, gender have no place in the world – nevertheless sports. I am excited to be an ally and stand up for people like me in the LGBT community.”
