Alex Ovechkin is the only player in the history of the NHL to score at least 900 career goals.
It’s a mind-boggling feat that may have caused whoever was responsible for the TV graphic during Tuesday’s game between the Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues to lose focus.
A screenshot of the broadcast shared by Barstool Sports showed an unfortunate typo that was supposed to read “SHATTERING THE RECORD BOOKS” to refer to Ovechkin’s incredible scoring achievement.

Despite that error, it should not take away anything from Ovechkin’s greatness.
However, the Caps were far from great against the Blues, as Washington suffered a 3-0 loss at Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Mo. Ovi missed his two shots on goal. As a team, the Capitals were outshot by St. Louis, 31-27. Washington also went scoreless on two power-play opportunities, as the team struggled to solve St. Louis goalie Joel Hofer, who turned away 21 shots.
As of the latest tally, “The Great Eight” has 923 career goals (including 26 in 72 games this season) through 1,563 regular-season games played since the 2005-06 campaign.
The 40-year-old Ovechkin can add to his totals on Thursday against the Utah Mammoth at Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
