Nazem Kadri has been suspended three games by the NHL for boarding Tommy Wingels during the third period of Game 1 between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins on Thursday.
Kadri’s Leafs were trailing the Bruins 4-1 late in the game when the forward saw Boston’s Zdeno Chara and Tommy Wingels hit Mitch Marner by the boards. He did not like an elbow from Wingels to Marner, so he charged at Wingels and drove his head into the boards.
Nazem Kadri back to the penalty box for this hit on Tommy Wingels. This one is definitely bad, possibly even supplemental bad. pic.twitter.com/tZ3HI1SBNY

In a video explaining the suspension, the NHL described Kadri as “recklessly” going after Wingels. They call it a “forceful and illegal hit delivered on a defenseless opponent for the purpose of retribution and message-sending.”
This is Kadri’s fourth career suspension. He will miss the next three games of his team’s first round playoff series against the Bruins. Toronto trails in the series 1-0.
