Josh Hamilton movie reportedly in the works

Josh Hamilton has reportedly reached an agreement with a Hollywood production company to bring his amazing life story to the big screen. Here’s a statement released by the Rangers on Friday (via MLB.com):

Josh and Katie Hamilton are pleased to announce that they have been approached by Casey Affleck and Thunder Road Pictures and have agreed to the creation of a feature film about their lives. While they are not involved with the actual Hollywood pitching process, the Hamiltons will be an integral part of the film’s creative direction and accuracy as the project develops.

According to Deadline, Hamilton sold the rights to the flick to producer Basil Iwanyk (his credits include “The Town” and “We Are Marshall”). Hamilton and his wife are set to co-produce while Affleck will write and direct.

Affleck, as you might have guessed, is Ben Affleck’s brother and is a respected and accomplished actor in Hollywood. But he has very little writing and directing credits to his name. The last film he wrote and directed was that weird Joaquin Phoenix “documentary.”

Hamilton’s remarkable story of a highly touted prospect to a rock-bottom drug addict out of baseball to an AL MVP has had Hollywood written all over it all along.

“It has the mythic quality of “The Natural,” the faith-based angle of “The Blind Side,” and faith is a major part of our story, and the romance of “Walk the Line,” Iwanyk said of Hamilton’s tale.

But, much like we were with “Moneyball,” we’re anxious to see how the story actually gets the big-screen treatment. Hopefully better than that incredibly corny Kevin Durant movie.

Nobody has been cast for any of the roles as of yet, but we’re already calling Kellan Lutz getting the lead. But, please, no other “Twilight” kids.
