Max Scherzer annoyed by loud visiting Orioles fans at Nationals Park

Max Scherzer eyes

Washington Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer takes his home-field advantage very seriously.

Speaking with reporters after blanking Baltimore 4-0 on Thursday night, Scherzer said that he was irritated by loud Oriole fan infiltrators making noise in the eighth inning at Nationals Park.

“I just had emptied the tanks in the eighth, and gave everything I got there in the eighth,” Scherzer said, per Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com. “The O’s fans started making noise there in the eighth, and that really kind of ticked me off. When they’re sitting out there cheering at our park, I didn’t like that.”

Let it be known to opposing baseball fans: stay out his territory or else face the wrath of Mad Max.

For Scherzer, who is 5-3 this season with a 2.33 ERA in 11 starts at home as opposed to 9-4 with a 3.35 ERA in 16 starts on the road, it’s not the first time the fans have been an issue for him at his home ballpark. But in a season where he’s once again a frontrunner for the NL Cy Young Award, Scherzer’s probably not fretting too badly in the grand scheme of things.
