I'm wondering the same thing myself.  And I mean wondering.  Zambano had thrown 85 pitches, which for him is just warming up.  Of the 85 pitches, ONE was a bad pitch.  And the Cubs made post season in spite of their bullpen, not because of it (ref Larry Brown's Cubs season preview).

Post season team failures are strewn with managers 'saving' pitchers for a future game.
