Anthony Davis admits he was ‘a little shocked’ at Cousins signing with Warriors

While there don’t appear to be any hard feelings between ex-New Orleans Pelicans teammates Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins, the former is admitting to being a bit taken aback by the latter’s departure.

In an appearance Wednesday on CBS Sports’ “Reiter’s Block,” Davis gave some thoughts on Cousins’ decision to sign with the Golden State Warriors.

“Of course I was a little shocked,” said the All-NBA First Teamer. “But I know DeMarcus. He made the best decision for him and his career at that time and for his family. I understand it’s a business. Of course I definitely would have loved for us to keep going. But at that point, I’m not sure what was going on with his situation or what was going through his head.

“It’s a lot coming from being traded [from the Sacramento Kings] and feeling like you deserve a max contract and then you rupture your Achilles,” Davis continued. “It was a tough decision. It was tough on him, and I think he made the right decision for him and his family. I’m happy for him. But we’ll being seeing him down the road, and now he just has to guard me instead of us playing with each other.”

Davis, who was teammates with Cousins in New Orleans for two seasons, also said that he learned of Cousins signing with the Warriors through TV reports.

There were some rumors that tension between the two star big men had led to Cousins’ departure. But Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry recently denied that, and it sounds like it’s all love from Davis’ end despite his ex-frontcourt partner’s decision to join New Orleans’ biggest obstacle in the Western Conference.
