Monty Williams complains that Warriors’ crowd noise may be illegal

Monty Williams

New Orleans Pelicans coach Monty Williams knows all about the homecourt advantage the Golden State Warriors have at Oracle Arena, and he even thinks the crowd is so loud that the noise level might not even be legal.

Speaking at practice Monday prior to Game 2 of the Western Conference playoff series between the teams, Williams suggested he might bring up the matter to the competition committee.

“I’m not so sure the decibel level is legal, and I’m serious,” Williams said via ESPN.com. “They’ve done studies on that. For the competition committee, there’s got to be something to that. It does get a little out of hand. Their fans, I’ve talked about it for years, they have some of the best fans in the league.”

Pelicans star Anthony Davis even talked about the noise level and said it was so loud he couldn’t hear his teammates or coaches.

“It’s definitely a different level, a different atmosphere,” Davis said of the Oracle Arena. “It’s so loud I can’t hear my teammates or my coaches.”

You know what? That was just based on the noise level for Game 1 of the playoff series Saturday. Golden State’s players said that was nothing; it gets much louder at night. I’ve ripped on Warriors fans in the past, but I have to give it up to them: they are some of the best in the sports.
