Nick Saban reportedly telling NFL teams he’s staying at Alabama

Nick Saban is being targeted by some NFL teams looking to fill head coaching vacancies, but he reportedly is telling those suitors that he will be staying at Alabama.

CBS Sports’ Mike Freeman says Saban has been telling NFL teams interested in hiring him “thanks but no thanks” thus far. Freeman says Saban has told inquiring teams he’s not coming back to the NFL.

It’s possible that Saban is declining overtures at this moment because he’s focused on the national championship game. It’s also possible that he could be saying one thing and planning to do another, like what happened when he left the Miami Dolphins for Alabama. However, this time around, we actually believe Saban.

Why should Saban entertain offers from NFL teams right now? He was there once and it didn’t go so well. At Alabama, he’s paid well, developed the best program in the country, and he already has a statue made in his likeness. Unless he has a goal to prove that he can win in the NFL, what does Saban have to gain by leaving Bama?
