Jadeveon Clowney’s father arrested for attempted murder outside strip club

David-Morgan-mug-shot

The father of Houston Texans defensive lineman Jadeveon Clowney was arrested outside a strip club early Tuesday morning and charged with attempted murder.

David Morgan, who goes by the nickname “Chili Bean,” allegedly fired several shots at an employee who works at the Crazy Horse Showclub in Rock Hill after he had been removed from sitting on the stage. The victim told police he spotted Morgan around the back of the property at around 2:15 a.m., at which point Morgan shot at him.

The victim said he fired back at Morgan with his own weapon, and he apparently hit him. Police charged Morgan while he was in the hospital being treated for a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

As Andrew Dys of The Herald in Rock Hill notes, Morgan is a convicted felon who spent several years in prison while Clowney was playing high school football. He has been convicted of assault and battery and burglary, among other crimes. Clowney was informed Tuesday of his father’s arrest and is said to be “highly upset.”

Morgan is facing a weapons charge in addition to attempted murder. As a convicted felon, he is not permitted to be carrying a gun at any time.

Clowney’s second NFL offseason has been quite tumultuous. He is still recovering from a knee injury, and he also dealt with an incident involving a teammate’s dog several months back. Here’s hoping there are bright days ahead for the former South Carolina star’s sophomore season.
