New York Giants kicker Josh Brown has been suspended one game by the NFL despite not being charged with a crime, and he should be banned for a lot longer than that if any of the information his ex-wife gave police is true.

According to the New York Daily News, Molly Brown told police on the day of Josh’s arrest in 2015 that the NFL veteran had been physically violent with her on more than 20 occasions, starting when she was pregnant with the couple’s daughter back in 2009.

911 audio tapes obtained by the Daily News show that police were called to Brown’s home on two consecutive days in May 2015. On May 21, Molly told dispatchers Josh “genuinely got in my son’s face,” referring to a 16-year-old she had in a previous relationship. The next day, she told police he grabbed her wrist during an argument.

“I got really scared. And I just went and locked myself in my bedroom again,” Molly said in the 911 call. “They came last night and they said if anything else happened just to call back and I don’t want anything to get any worse.”

The incident report stated that Molly told officers Josh had become physically violent more than 20 times over the past several years and that he “became violent after she became pregnant with their daughter.” Here are some more details of what she told police:

The first of those events, she said, came sometime in 2009 when Molly Brown said she was probably between four and six months pregnant. Molly Brown said the couple were fighting, “and there was a box of mail that we had initially were arguing over, I took it, I like threw it off the desk and the papers went everywhere and he—I remember grabbing my shoulders and like just pushing me into the door.”

At one point during the pregnancy, which Molly Brown says was accidental, she said Josh Brown accused her of being a “gold-digger” and accused her of getting pregnant on purpose.

Molly went on to describe several more incidents in detail, telling police her then-husband made a fist at her during a trip to Hawaii and said “I want to knock you out so bad.” She also said Josh pushed her into a mirror, threw her on the ground and held her face-down in the carpet in April 2014.

Brown was arrested, but the state determined that there was not sufficient evidence to file charges.

After reading the report, players who are suspended, unable to find work, or both come to mind. Ray Rice is an obvious comparison, as is the disgrace that was given a chance with the Dallas Cowboys last year.
