Jon Jones wanted for questioning in hit and run

Jon Jones

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is wanted for questioning in an alleged hit and run that occurred Sunday morning in Albuquerque, N.M., that resulted in a woman being hospitalized.

Albuquerque public information officer Simon Drobik told MMA Fighting that a woman’s car was hit Sunday morning and that the other driver fled the scene. They are investigating the case and want to speak with Jones, though they are not calling him a suspect.

“[We] don’t know where he is right now,” Drobik said of Jones. “We’re trying to figure that out.”

It was previously reported that those closest to Jones had been unable to get a hold of him lately.

The woman whose vehicle was hit was rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Previous reports said Jones was out of his UFC 187 fight next month against Anthony Johnson because of this matter, but that seems premature and unconfirmed.

Jones lives in New Mexico and trains out of the Jackson-Winkeljohn MMA Academy in Albuquerque. We previously told you that Jones was at a Twin Peaks bar watching the UFC 186 fights Saturday night with fellow MMA fighter Andrei Arlovski.

Jones has been in the news multiple times over the past year. It came out in January that he tested positive for cocaine prior to his fight with Daniel Cormier. He spent one day in rehab as a result. He was also arrested for DWI in New York three years ago.

UPDATE: Police say witnesses believe Jones was the driver and they found marijuana inside the car after the accident.
