Tiger Woods has battled a number of injuries over the past several years. Aside from Tiger, we rarely hear about injuries on the golf course. That could either be a result of very few golfers getting injured or people simply not paying attention to anyone but Woods. In any event, the 37-year-old is dealing with more aches and pains as he prepares for The Barclays.
Woods said he woke up with a sore neck and back on Wednesday and was unable to take a full swing on any of his shots during the Pro-Am tournament at Liberty National. The cause? Those damn soft mattresses they use at hotels.
“I didn’t want to push it, so I just chipped and putted,” Woods said, via the NY Post. “It was fine at home, just hotel beds.”
Most people prefer the comfort of their own bed to a hotel mattress, but doesn’t Tiger have a crew of people who follow him around just to make sure his sleeping conditions are as perfect as possible? I like to think someone who makes $60 million a year has a personal Sleep Number consultant following him around from city to city, but apparently even Tiger has normal people problems.
When asked if he was going to find a new hotel and/or bed, Tiger gave a very Tiger-like answer.
“What do you think?” he asked with a grin.
Maybe my Sleep Number consultant theory will prove true now that Woods has gone public with his complaint. We’ve heard of baseball players injuring themselves while sleeping on the bus or dozing off on the plane, but the old Tiger would have never let any of this happen. Perhaps that’s why he can’t drive the ball in the fairway or show up to play on a weekend at a major. Yes, I’m kidding.
