Addison Russell’s leave reportedly extended through end of season
Addison Russell has been placed on administrative leave by Major League Baseball in the wake of domestic violence allegations, and the shortstop is going to remain out through the remainder of the regular season and likely beyond.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Russell’s indefinite leave has been extended to run at least through Sunday, which is the final day of the regular season.
MLB has extended Addison Russell’s administrative leave through Sunday, the final day of the regular season, a source tells The Athletic. As I reported yesterday, every previous case of a player going on AL resulted in the player agreeing to a suspension without appeal.

As Rosenthal notes, it seems likely that Russell will eventually be suspended. There was a report last week that Russell and his agent Scott Boras were considering requesting an emergency hearing to have the situation resolved as quickly as possible, but it seems unlikely that we are going to see him again even in the playoffs.
Russell was first publicly accused of domestic violence by his ex-wife, Melisa Reidy, last year. Reidy filed for divorce around that same time and did not cooperate with MLB’s investigation, but she recently opened up about the toxic relationship she had with Russell.
