With a downright murderous batting order and a rotation that seemingly featured Cy Young winners from top to bottom, it seems as though the only Achilles heel for the Toronto Blue Jays last season was their bullpen. As the team moves forward into the 2016 campaign, they’re making for darn sure that it doesn’t happen again.
On Friday, the Blue Jays acquired righty reliever Drew Storen from the Washington Nationals in exchange for outfielder Ben Revere, per Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

The 28-year-old Storen went 2-2 with a 3.44 ERA, 69 strikeouts, and 29 saves in 2015. Though he lost his closing job after the team acquired Jonathan Papelbon at the trade deadline (a move he was none too pleased about), Storen excelled in the ninth inning for the Nats for several seasons. He is likely to supplant Roberto Osuna as the Blue Jays’ closer.
Revere, meanwhile, batted .306/.342/.377 with two home runs, 45 RBIs, and 31 stolen bases last year. With the team’s surplus of outfield talent, the speedy 27-year-old had become expendable in Toronto. Now, Revere goes to a situation with the Nationals where he can serve as an everyday outfielder, especially since Denard Span signed with the San Francisco Giants on Thursday.
