Patrick Corbin to start Game 1 of NLDS for Nationals against Dodgers
The Washington Nationals used two of their aces to win Tuesday night’s NL Wild Card Game 4-3 over the Milwaukee Brewers and will turn things over to Patrick Corbin in Game 1 of the NLDS.
Max Scherzer started the Wild Card Game and allowed two home runs in the first two innings to fall behind 3-0. He exited down 3-1 after five innings and gave way to Stephen Strasburg. Strasburg pitched the next three innings in relief before Daniel Hudson pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
The Nats will have Wednesday off to travel to Los Angeles for their NLDS against the Dodgers. Manager Davey Martinez announced Corbin as the starter for Game 1 on Thursday, while the Dodgers have yet to announce their starter.
Corbin, a big free agent signing over the offseason, went 14-7 with a 3.25 ERA in 202 innings during the regular season. He’ll have his work cut out for him facing the Dodgers, who were first in the NL in runs, home runs and OPS this season.
