Phillies name Matt Stairs as their new hitting coach
After ranking 24th in home runs, 29th in batting average, and dead last in runs scored this past season, the Philadelphia Phillies are turning to an old friend for some help turning around their offense.
The Phillies announced on Wednesday that they have hired retired slugger Matt Stairs as their new hitting coach.

Stairs, 48, was in the league for 19 years and played for 12 different teams. But perhaps the most notable of those stints came with these very Phillies as Stairs won the World Series with them in 2008 after hitting a memorable go-ahead home run in Game 4 of that year’s NLCS as a pinch-hitter.
Here’s looking forward to Stairs, who will replace ex-Phillies hitting coach Steve Henderson, imparting priceless nuggets of wisdom like this on the Philadelphia hitters next season and beyond.
