Red Sox president says David Ortiz’s condition is still ‘serious’
David Ortiz is expected to arrive in Boston from the Dominican Republic at some point Monday evening, and it sounds like he still has a long way to go with his recovery from a gun shot.
Red Sox president Sam Kennedy spoke with the media on Monday, and he described Ortiz’s condition as “still serious.” However, doctors in the Dominican Republic have determined that Big Papi is stable enough to be transported to Boston after undergoing extensive surgery.
Kennedy: "Please know we are doing everything we can to support David and his family during this very difficult period. Our medical team in Boston and doctors in the DR have confirmed that David’s condition is still serious but he is stable enough to be transported back to Boston

A video showed a man come up behind Ortiz and shoot him when Big Papi was hanging out at a bar in his hometown of Santo Domingo on Sunday night. The bullet went into Ortiz’s back and exited through his stomach, and he had to undergo several hours of surgery after some organs were damaged. It sounds like he is fortunate to be alive, and he should be under the care of some of the best doctors in the world when he returns to Boston.
