Red Sox players willing to get piercings in honor of Chris Sale if they win World Series

Chris Sale

Chris Sale may have been having some fun with the media when he claimed with a straight face that he wound up in the hospital during the ALCS because of issues he was having with his belly button ring, but it sounds like he started what could become a very serious trend.

While speaking with reporters prior to Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday, several Red Sox players said they would be willing to get piercings if the team wins a championship. Ian Kinsler said he would get his nipple pierced, and some of his teammates said they’ll do the same. Rick Porcello is all for the idea.

Infielder Brock Holt said he’s willing to get “any type of ring” if the Red Sox win it all.

Closer Craig Kimbrel is a bit more reserved, as he says he would go for the belly button ring but isn’t sure about getting his nipple pierced.

Believe it or not, there were — and may still be — some people who believed Sale when he said belly button ring irritation led to his hospitalization. In any event, he’s starting Game 1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night, and Porcello already had a great quote about the left-hander’s return. Assuming he’s back to full health, Sale should energize his team right out of the gate.
