Rookie Miguel Andujar off to historic start for Yankees
New York Yankees rookie Miguel Andujar is off to a great start in his career and putting himself in some excellent company.
Andujar was called up by the Yankees on April 1 and didn’t get his first hit until April 7. He was batting just .133 through April 12, but everything began to turn after his start in Detroit on April 13.
Andujar went 2-for-4 in that game with a double and triple. Since then he’s gone on a 7-game hitting streak, with at least two hits in six of the seven games. As of Monday, he was batting .555 (15-for-27) during his hitting streak. Moreover, he’s had at least one extra base hit in every game during the hitting streak (8 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs).
According to YES Network researcher Jeff Quagliata, the only Yankee with more extra base hits in his first 19 games is Joe DiMaggio.

14 Miguel Andujar
13 Gary Sanchez— Jeff Quagliata (@yestoresearch) April 24, 2018
The 23-year-old third baseman is also in the same conversation as not just DiMaggio, but also Mickey Mantle thanks to his hot start.

Katie Sharp says that Andujar joins Alex Rodriguez as the only Yankees third baseman with an extra base hit in seven-or-more straight games since 1930.

As if the Yankees didn’t already have enough sluggers in their lineup between Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sanchez and Didi Gregorius, now you have to deal with Miguel DiMaggio. There’s a reason why he made this top 10 list of ours.
