Video: Tim Tebow’s route on this ball was less than stellar

Tim Tebow Mets

Tim Tebow is entering his fourth season of professional ball, and his outfield work still leaves something to be desired.

Tebow started in left and batted ninth in the New York Mets’ Spring Training game on Sunday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Cardinals center fielder Harrison Bader led off the game with a homer to left-center, and Tebow’s route to the ball was not exactly smooth.

As you can see in the video, Tebow starts cutting to his left before going back towards the wall in the outfield.

A straight line is the most direct path to where you need to go, and Tebow took the old “L” route to the ball. That’s not ideal.

Tebow went 0-for-1 with a strikeout and two walks in the game.

After putting together an extremely respectable showing in Double-A in 2018 (.273 batting average, .735 OPS), Tebow showed his limitations last season. He batted just .163 with a .495 OPS in 77 games in Triple-A. If he doesn’t show vast improvement this season, his time in professional baseball may come to an end. That wouldn’t be the worst thing, because he does have some other career options.
