Dion Waiters’ mother posted on Instagram Saturday morning to dismiss a report about her son’s health.
On Friday night, Andy Slater, a host on 640AM South Florida, reported that a Miami Heat player had a medical emergency on the team’s flight from Phoenix to LA. The Heat lost on Friday night to the Lakers, and Waiters did not play due to illness.
Slater later reported that Waiters overdosed on “gummies,” passed out, and had a seizure when he woke up. Gummies is likely a nickname for THC gummy chews.

Waiters’ mother Monique Brown posted on her Instagram Story to tell people not to believe the “rumors” and that the media will report “fake news.” She said “none of that mess is true.”

Here’s what we know that is factual: Waiters was suspended for the season opener due to conduct detrimental to the team and did not make the team’s road trip to begin the season. He has not played at all this season and was listed as out for Friday’s game due to illness.
The 27-year-old is in the third year of a four-year contract and has only played in 74 games the past two seasons. He complained about playing time last season as he returned from an ankle injury.
