LeBron James does not think end of his prime is near

LeBron James

LeBron James may be aging, but he does not think the end of his prime is near.

James decided to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency even though the team is mostly filled with youngsters and regarded as being far away from contending for a championship. That led many to question James’ decision to join a team that wasn’t so championship-ready.

Even though he will turn 34 in December, James says he’s not worried because he does not think his prime is ending.

“I don’t even look at it like that because I don’t feel like this is going to be one of the last years of my prime,” James said via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “That’s another statistic number, and I’ve always been a part of beating the odds in life. So being around my kids a lot, it gives me even more and more time in my youth.”

As great of a mentality as that is to have, and as awesome as LeBron is, even he cannot defy Father Time forever. At some point all the minutes he’s played in both the regular and postseason will catch up, and he won’t be the most dominant player in the world. That point is coming sooner rather than later, which makes his decision to join the Lakers questionable.

Regardless, you cannot knock James for the confidence he exhibits in himself. The excellent care he takes of himself should also help prolong his career.
