The New Orleans Pelicans hope to shed one of the NBA’s worst contracts.
According to a report by A. Sherrod Blakely of CSN New England on Sunday, the Pelicans are making center Omer Asik “very much available” for trade.
Asik, 30, holds meager averages of 3.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 0.4 blocks in 17.5 minutes per game for New Orleans this season. He is in Year 2 of a five-year, $58 million deal.
It’s unclear what kind of market there would be for Asik, a cement-footed stiff who has no range outside of three feet and isn’t playable in crunch time. The Pelicans will try their best to dangle him in front of teams hungry for any semblance of interior defense (like this Eastern Conference club), but it looks like they might be stuck with the Turkish big man for the balance of his deal.
