Well, we know where Rajon Rondo stands on the debate about the Isaiah Thomas video tribute.
Rondo, who is now with the New Orleans Pelicans, was in Boston on Tuesday night to face his former team. After his Pelicans beat the Celtics 116-113 in overtime, Rondo talked about the Thomas/Paul Pierce controversy.
Earlier this month, Pierce said he did not want the Celtics to play a video tribute to Thomas when he returns to Boston as a member of the Cavaliers because it would attract from Pierce’s jersey retirement day. Thomas acquiesced Tuesday and said he wanted it to be all about Pierce.
Rondo wants to know why Thomas is being honored by the Celtics at all.
Rajon Rondo was irked to hear that the Celtics would honor Isaiah Thomas on any night. "What has he done?” Rondo asked. Told that he led the Celtics to the conference finals last year, Rondo remarked, “Oh, that’s what we celebrate around here?”

More Rondo on IT: “This is the Boston Celtics. This isn’t the Phoenix Suns, no disrespect to any other organization, but you don’t hang conference titles. Do we hang going to the conference finals? What do we hang here?”
Title banners, Rondo was told.
“OK, cool,” Rondo said.— Bill Doyle (@BillDoyle15) January 17, 2018
Rondo isn’t exactly the warmest-hearted person, so his strong feelings should not come as a surprise. He should be reminded that Thomas is just getting a video tribute thanking him for what he did for the Celtics, not a jersey retirement or banner. What Thomas accomplished in Boston is certainly worthy of that, just as long as it’s not on Paul Pierce’s day.
