Russell Westbrook has great reason for not doing Slam Dunk Contest

Russell Westbrook is one of the most athletic players in the NBA, and the Oklahoma City Thunder guard can throw it down with as much authority as anyone in the league. Despite that, he has never had any interest in participating in the annual Slam Dunk Contest.

Why is that?

According to Darnell Mayberry of The Oklahoman, Westbrook gave a fantastic response on Friday when asked why he has only been a spectator for the Dunk Contest.

“I only dunk on people,” Westbrook said.

Hey, that’s a lot more entertaining than the reason LeBron James has given for never taking part in the event.

We know Westbrook is a phenomenal dunker, as we have been witnessing evidence of it for years. And if he’s worried about not having anyone to dunk on, I’m sure he could find volunteers. We’ve seen players jump over people during the Slam Dunk Contest. There are plenty of people who would be happy to let Westbrook dunk on them.
