Jerry Jones wants to host Canelo Alvarez-GGG fight

Jerry Jones

When Jerry Jones opened AT&T Stadium, he envisioned the venue being the home for much more than the Dallas Cowboys. He wanted to host NCAA Tournament games, wrestling events, boxing matches, college football games, and more. They have done that so far.

And now Jones would like to host boxing’s next superfight.

Jones is hoping that Golden Boy and K2 Promotions will agree to hold their fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin in Arlington at AT&T Stadium. The fight is scheduled for Sept. 16, but no venue has been decided. Jones wants to host it.

“The idea of Canelo and GGG fighting before 100,000 screaming Hispanic-Mexican fans is exciting,” Jones said in a video produced by ESPN. “We should very much be in the hunt because of the great interest in boxing in this area, certainly the proximity to Mexico.”

Alvarez is from Mexico and very popular among Mexican sports fans. He has already fought at AT&T Stadium before, as he defeated Liam Smith there in September. Expect some of the venues in Las Vegas to give AT&T Stadium some stiff competition for hosting the bout.
